Obituary of Linda W. Moran
Linda Welzmiller Moran, 83, of Mendham, passed away peacefully at home on June 23, 2025 surrounded by her family. Born in Summit, NJ, in 1942, Linda was raised in Chatham. After highschool she pursued her passion for art. In college, Linda met the love of her life, William “Bill” Moran. The couple married in 1963 and eventually settled in Mendham, where they raised their family. Linda and her friend, Judy Harrison, were the founders of Mendham’s first 4-H club for young horse riders. At one point, the club had over 30 homes with backyard horses, riding the trails of Mendham.
Linda’s lifelong devotion to animals, especially horses, was a defining part of her life. A dedicated equestrian, she competed in horse riding events for much of her life and found great joy in caring for her animals. When not in the stables or on horseback, Linda expressed her artistic talents through painting. An accomplished artist, she was especially fond of capturing the spirit of her family’s animals and her grandchildren in her work.
Linda is survived by her husband of 62 years, William; her sons, Douglas (Julie) and Peter (Doris) of Mendham; and her grandchildren, William, Andrew, Julia, and Matthew. She is also survived by her sister, Susan Downing, of Venice, Florida, as well as her beloved horse, Scout and rescue cat, Peep. She was predeceased by her son James in 2004.
The family will receive friends at their home 1-3 PM on Saturday, June 28, to celebrate her life.
