Obituary of Ray Lewis White

Ray was born in Island Falls, Maine and was an Aroostock County boy.  His parents were Edna J. Gould and Fred Belmont White, Sr.  He had three brothers, Fred White, Jr., (living) Lenny White and Guy White (deceased) and two sisters, Geneva Bliss (deceased) and Lilly Frazer (living).  Ray attended high school at Maine Central Institute and excelled academically.  He showed a high aptitude for mechanical drawing and architecture.

Ray started a tire business with his brother, Fred known as White Brother’s Tire Service, Route 46, Netcong, NJ where he worked for many years until retirement.

Ray was a Mason and belonged to the Musconetcong Lodge No 151, F. & A. M.  He was a member of the Past Time Club in Mendham, NJ. He was known for helping Santa out during his busiest time of year by playing Santa Claus at the Mendham Township Fire Department.  He was also Grand Marshall with his wife, Nancy for a July 4th Celebration.   Ray served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1954 after serving in Europe as Corporal.

Ray was married to the love of his life, Nancy R. White, of Brookside, NJ until she passed on January 4, 2019.  He devoted his retiring years to being the sole care giver for Nancy as she suffered from kidney failure.

Ray was a devoted father to his four daughters, Kathy Broadhurst, Cindy Walther, Patty Petersson and Jacqui Polo aka “his girls”.  He had eight grandchildren, Rich Walther, Caitlin Walther Lavin, Kirsten Walther Yeh, Taylor Walther, Erin Petersson, Jordan Polo, Jillian Polo, John Polo and Jaidan Polo.  He was a great grandfather to Wyatt Lavin and Henry Lavin.

Ray spent his free time building a beautiful home in Otis, Maine on a fresh water lake where the entire family vacationed and remembers many happy memories as they were made and cherished.  He taught us all valuable life lessons and we will remember his integrity, wit and laughter; but mostly his most unselfish character and loving disposition.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Bailey’s Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham, NJ from 10 am to 12 pm.  A service at Brookside Community Church, 8 E. Main Street, Brookside, NJ at 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm followed by lunch at 1:30 pm at the Brookside Community Club directly across the street from the Church.
