Obituary of Raymond Cross Woodhull
Raymond C. Woodhull died on Nov. 12, 2011 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. He was 88
Born in Brookside, he was a lifelong resident of Brookside. The Woodhull family has lived in Brookside since 1629.
He was an Army Veteran of WWII serving from 1942-1945 (5th Army Infantry in Tunisia, Sicily, and Anzio). Raymond received the Purple Heart while serving in the invasion of Italy at Anzio.
He was an active Member of the Brookside Engine Company #1 for over 65 years and served as a past Chief.
Ray was a self employed Plumbing and Heating Contractor for many years before retiring. He also worked for Morris County Public Works as a Heating System Specialist retiring in 1991.
He also bred and raised Springer Spaniels and had several award winning dogs, in addition he was a member of the Mendham Township Historical Society for many years.
He was predeceased by his wife Anita Combs Woodhull, brothers and sisters Albert Smith Woodhull, Mary Woodhull Euker, Betty G. Chambers, Ida Mae Woodhull Rodgers, Victor L. Woodhull, David Woodhull and Walter James Woodhull. Survivors include one sister Joanne Woodhull D'Apolito of Hightstown, NJ; one brother John Benjamin Woodhull of Glen Gardner, NJ; 19 nieces and nephews, including niece Nancy White and her husband Raymond of Brookside and many grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6-9pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd. Funeral Service Thursday 11am at Brookside Community Church. Cremation will be private. Interment will be in Mt Freedom Cemetery on Saturday at 11:30am with Military Honors.
