Obituary of Edward Joseph Bridges

Edward Joseph Bridges passed away on Jan 2, 2023 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune.  He was 83.

Born in Jersey City NJ to John Bridges and Estelle Kubrack Bridges, he grew up in Nutley, NJ before moving to Mendham in 1976.  He moved to Brick NJ in 2016, where he enjoyed his final years on the water with his beloved dog, Rosie, always at his side.

He served in the US Navy from 1959-1961.

He worked at PSE&G as the Manager of Visual Communication and Display for 36 years before retiring in 1997.  Later at age 65, Ed headed back to College to complete his Landscape Design certification and started a second career as a Landscape Designer for the next 10 years of his life.

Ed was a gifted artist.  Self taught in the style of the old masters, he left behind a treasure trove of paintings and illustrations that his family will cherish.  Throughout his artistic career he competed and won many art shows and competitions.  He was particularly proud to be selected as the bicentennial artist for the town of Nutley, NJ in 1975.

He was an active member of the Mendham youth sports programs where he proudly coached the peewee football team for many years.

He married his childhood sweetheart, Sandra Shaw in 1967 and they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife Sandra of Brick, NJ, one son Ted Bridges (Sarah) of Brick, NJ and one daughter Christie Canfield (Ryan) of Fanwood, NJ. He is also survived by his brother John Bridges of Colonia, his sister Susan Muratori of Baldwin NY and his 4 cherished grandchildren Teddy, Abigail, Rowan and Marlowe.

The family will receive friends on Sunday Jan 8, 2023 from 1- 3 pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd. Mendham.  A Memorial Service will be held Monday at 11 am at the Hilltop Presbyterian Church, Mendham.  In lieu of flowers,  donations to Operation Smile, in his memory, would be appreciated.  https://www.operationsmile.org/
