Obituary of William D Bruen

William D. Bruen (“Bill”) died peacefully at his New Vernon home on August 2, 2023.

Bill was born and raised in Morristown, New Jersey and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Bill graduated from Drew University in 1950 and married his grammar school sweetheart Margaret (“Peggy”) immediately after graduation. She died in 2014.

He was a Financial Advisor with UBS Financial Services in Florham Park, and continued to be in the office well into his 90’s. He would often comment how much he enjoyed helping and speaking with his friends every day.

Bill proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a trustee of The United States Naval Academy Foundation.

He was a member of the New Vernon Presbyterian Church and enjoyed preparing meals with Peggy for the Community Soup Kitchen for years. He was a member, Paul Harris Fellow, and past-president of the Morristown Rotary Club. Bill served for many years as treasurer of the Washington Association of New Jersey and was awarded the Association’s first ever Achievement Medal. He also served as a member of the Morristown Memorial Hospital Corporation.

Bill and Peggy were members of Morris County Golf Club and enjoyed their friendships with everyone there.

Bill is survived by their son William Jr. (Susan), his grandsons William III (Michelle), and Andrew (Callie), and his great-grandchildren, Ella Rose, Graham, Theodore, and William IV.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 7 at 10 am at the First Presbyterian Church of New Vernon.
