Obituary of Marilynne Mazzella

Marilynne Mazzella, 84 years old, known to her family as Mom, Grammy and Auntie Mar passed away peacefully at her home in Basking Ridge on September 19, 2023. Marilynne was born in 1939 in Brooklyn, New York.  She graduated Brooklyn College Secretarial School and first worked for Union Bag and Paper Company, and later for the Wall Street firm, Brown Brothers, Harriman and Company.  After moving to New Jersey, she was a long-time employee of Randolph Township, serving as Board of Adjustment Secretary.

She met the love of her life, Gerald (Jerry) in 1957. Introduced by friends, they married in 1959. In 1968, they relocated to the Shongum section of Randolph, NJ to raise their family.  Marilynne enjoyed sewing clothes for family and crafts such as needlepoint and macramé, while fastidiously keeping their home. She volunteered with the PTA, Brownies/Girl Scouts and teaching CCD classes with Jerry. She enjoyed bowling, tennis, gardening, strawberry picking, planting flowers, summer vacations in Shelter Island, NY and Long Beach Island, NJ and spending as much time socializing with family and friends.

Marilynne loved to travel. In her golden years, she ventured overseas with friends. She volunteered at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Mayo Arts Center, and the Morristown Museum. Yet, her fondest memories were of more youthful times at Coney Island.

Above all else, Marilynne’s most treasured jewels were her children.  Beside her three children, she was blessed by four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.   She was generous with her heart and will be deeply missed.

Marilynne was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Jerry. She is survived by her beloved children Geri (Jeannette Albanese) Stevenson, Richard (Randi) Mazzella, Carolynne (Mark) Corigliano, and dear sister, Nancy (Ken) Nolan.
