Obituary of Sister Mary Frances Eiden

Sister Mary Frances Eiden, SCC entered into her eternal reward at Mallinckrodt Convent, Mendham, NJ on Monday, December 5, 2011 after a short illness. Sister was 97 years old. Sister Mary Frances (Dorothy) Eiden was born on May 31, 1914 in Scranton, PA, one of five children. Her parents were Elenora (Rosen) and Frank Eiden. She entered the Sisters of Christian Charity in Mendham on August 15, 1930. She was invested as a novice on June 29, 1931 and pronounced her Perpetual Vows on August 20, 1938. During her 80 years of religious life, the primary ministry of Sister Mary Frances was education, particularly commercial courses. She taught in many schools throughout PA and NJ, including West Catholic High School in Philadelphia, as well as Jersey City, Elizabeth and Denville. Sister was appointed Provincial Secretary in Mendham in 1977, and again in 1986. She spent her remaining years at the Motherhouse assisting with clerical work in various capacities. Sister Mary Frances is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many devoted students who have remained in contact with her over the years. The Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on Wednesday, December 7, at 11:00 am at the Sisters of Christian Charity Motherhouse, Mallinckrodt Convent, 350 Bernardsville Rd., Mendham. The viewing will take place in the convent chapel on Tuesday, December 6, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a Vesper Service at 7:00 pm.
