Obituary of Marilyn Carroll

Marilyn Carroll, 76, of Chester, N.J., died at home on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer.

Marilyn was born in Clifton, N.J., to Virginia and Dominick Maneri on Sept. 26, 1948. In 1966, she graduated from Clifton High School, where she played clarinet in the Clifton Mustang Marching Band.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Douglass College of Rutgers University in 1970. Shortly after graduation, Marilyn married her college sweetheart and love of her life, Charlie Carroll, a year after meeting him at Rutgers in an accounting class. They had just celebrated their 54th anniversary.

She worked as a computer programmer early in their marriage, before giving birth to her daughters, Christine and Charissa.

Marilyn later spent 37 years as an accountant at her husband’s firm, Charles M. Carroll, CPA.

She was an active parishioner at St. Luke Parish in Long Valley, where she was involved in the Cornerstone program. Marilyn’s Catholic faith was the guiding force of her life and helped her to face her diagnosis with strength, grace and a positive attitude.

Marilyn’s family was always her priority. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, dedicated grandmother and loyal friend. Her laughter and zest for life will be greatly missed.

Marilyn loved to be surrounded by music and singing, particularly Broadway tunes and marches. She and Charlie enjoyed going to the theater and had a subscription to the Paper Mill Playhouse for 35 years.

Marilyn was an accomplished cook and baker, known for delicious dishes like ricotta pie and eggplant parmigiana. She was also an avid gardener and was always up for a board game, puzzle or old-fashioned sing-along.

Marilyn was very grateful for the love and support of her family, friends and clients throughout her illness.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Charlie Carroll, her daughters, Christine Palmucci and her husband, Sam, of Roxbury, and Charissa Carroll and her partner, Jim Pomroy, of Mount Olive, and her grandchildren, Marisa Palmucci, Daniela Palmucci, Soleil Meiner and Neve Meiner.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at St. Luke Parish, 265 West Mill Road, Long Valley. Burial will follow at Hilltop Cemetery, 18 Hilltop Road, Mendham.
