Obituary of Barbara Callahan
Barbara Sue Callahan passed away peacefully at Morristown Memorial Hospital Hospice Care Thursday December 26th after a long battle with dementia. She was 77.
Barbara was born and raised in Clifton NJ by her parents Edward and Sarah Benz. As a young adult she was an exceptional pianist playing at such venues as Princeton University and Carnegie Hall. Almost by happenstance she fell into a career of court reporting and worked as a court stenographer at the New Jersey Superior Court in Paterson NJ for over 40 years. She spent many years traveling with her parents, most frequently to Hawaii. She met Scott and was married in 2005 and shortly thereafter they moved to their home in Mendham NJ. She loved her new home and being surrounded by all sorts of animals, most of all her dog “Puppup” a Great Pyrenees adopted from Texas. She loved filling her home with antiques and artwork from her travels and adventures to antique shows and estate sales. She always remarked how beautiful her home was and that we should never ever sell it.
Barbara was truly a remarkable woman who cared about everything she did and everyone she met. She always tried very hard to do her very best all the time. She truly had a kind and gentle heart. Wherever we went or whatever we did, we had a wonderful time filled with special moments and meeting so many different people and new friends along the way.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband Scott, her brother Edward sister-in-law Diane and their two children Noel and Mark. She is also survived by the Callahan family.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 5th from 2-4pm at Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham. A graveside service will be held at 11am on Monday, January 6th at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Montclair NJ.
