Obituary of Madelyn G. Welles

Madelyn G. Welles of Mendham died suddenly on April 17, 2012 at Morristown Medical Center. She was 84. Born in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of Herbert and Florence Beck. She lived in Short Hills, Springfield and Mountain Lakes before moving to Mendham in 1967. She attended Hunter College earning her R.N. after which she began her nursing career at Brooklyn Hospital. It was there that she met and later married her husband, Dr. Morley P. Welles in 1950. She was an active member of Mendham's Hilltop Presbyterian Church serving as Deacon and Elder. Madelyn believed in community spirit and dedicated her life to sharing her many talents and treasures with local organizations and charities. Her family will remember her as a loving wife and mother who dedicated her life to the family's upbringing while pursuing careers in home decoration and medical office management. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Morley P. Welles, and her grandson Benjamin Green. Survivors include her 11 children Christopher Welles (Linda), Jonathan Welles (Barbara), Frederick Welles (Joanne), Marilyn Boudreau, Jeffrey Welles (Karen), Timothy Welles, Laurence Welles (Pamela), Jennifer Green (Kevin), Amy Schmeal (Bruce), Douglas Welles (Linda) and Lori Welles; one sister Florence Margo; her 24 grandchildren Vanessa, Kyle, Meredith, Katie, Colin, Matthew, Derek, Jordan, Ashleigh, Brian, Robert, Laura, Amelia, Kalee, Michelle, Christopher, Chelsey, Schuyler, Logan, Ryan, Kurt, Nick, Connor, Eric; and two great grandchildren Carter and Jake. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 & 6-9pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham. Funeral Service Saturday 10 am at Hilltop Presbyterian Church.
