Obituary of Donald E. Hier

Donald E. Hier died suddenly on July 12, 2012 at Care one in Morristown. He was 84. Born in Irvington, NJ he has lived in Mendham the last 47 years. Mr. Hier was a 1953 graduate of Upsala College. He was a School Teacher in Chester for 40 years before he retired in 1993. He taught special needs children many years and also taught 5th and 6th grade. His family will remember him as a loving husband and father who will be dearly missed. He was predeceased by his wife Patricia and his grandson Daniel Henry Ostertag and his brother August Hier. Survivors include five daughters Cathleen Markey of Morris Plains, Rosemary Ostertag of Easton, PA, Abigail Grogaard of Franklin, NJ, Julianne Hier of Denville NJ and Heidi Hier of Knowlton, NJ; two sons; Christopher Hier of Mendham, NJ and John Hier of Long Valley, NJ. He is also survived by one brother Richard Hier of Sayreville, NJ one sister Elvena Siragusa of Piscataway and 11 grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-5pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham. Funeral Mass Monday 10:30am at St. Joseph Church, Mendham. Interment St. Joseph Church Cemetery.
