Obituary of Mary Swanson

Mary M. Swanson (Grammy) passed on a beautiful sunset evening surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Morristown Medical Center. She was 84 years young. She was born and raised in Morristown and moved to rural Mendham in 1946 with her husband Edward C. Swanson where she raised five children. Mary worked for the Mendham Borough School District for 20 years and the Mendham Racquet Club for 12 years in the child care center where all the children knew her as "Grammy". Mary was a devoted member of the Mendham Borough Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for 35 years. Her family will remember her as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved, the Mets, pizza parties, walking on sandy beaches, driving fast cars and feeding her neighborhood birds, deer, chipmunks, and squirrels. Mom was a great mother and always looked out for her family and friends. She was predeceased in 1999 by her husband Edward C. Swanson, Sr. Survivors include her son Edward C. (Linda), of Blacksburg, VA, Susan M. of Flagstaff, AZ, Donald (Mary Ellen), of Stroudsburg, PA, Sharon Swanson Coutts (Glenn, Jr.) of Mendham, and David E. Swanson (Leah) of Mendham.She is also survived by her five loving grandchildren, Glenn III and Julie Coutts; Caroline, Daniel and Timothy Swanson. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 4thfrom 3-5 p.m. followed by a short memorial service at Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham. Interment will be private.
